The Power of the Prenatal Mother-Baby Bond with a focus on Surrogacy and Adoption - A conversation with Michael Trout
Michael Trout is the founder and director of The Infant-Parent Institute, specializing in clinical services, professional training and research related to the optimal development of infants and their families.
He has published numerous book chapters and journal articles, co-authored The Jonathon Letters; Baby Verses: The Narrative Poetry of Infants and Toddlers and produced 16 documentaries, including films from a baby’s perspective on divorce, adoption, loss, domestic violence and parental incarceration.
His most recent book, This Hallowed Ground: Four Decades in Infant Mental Health, was published as an audiobook in 2019 and released in print by Cambridge Scholars in 2021.
Our conversation will explore the challenges and benefits of creating a prenatal mother-baby bond in surrogacy and adoption – how it sheds light on how we support all pregnancies, as well as examining our own prenatal experiences and how they have impacted the rest of our lives.
